Black, White and Gold
Holiday brief

We are delighted to be able to offer a true autumn holiday based in the beautiful Alsace Region of France.  This is a wonderful time of year and the holiday is perfectly timed to enjoy the incredible autumn colours (gold), both in the Alsace and in the Black Forest (black). Germany is just a pop over the border and the snow (white) capped mountains of Switzerland are also included in one of Inside Track's most memorable days out.

OUTLINE ITINERARY

Special Note: Travel between London and Colmar is first-class by Eurostar to Paris and then onto the Alsace aboard T.G.V. on the new high speed Est route via Strasbourg.

Thursday – Meet at St. Pancras International Station in time for the mid morning Eurostar to Paris. The journey is made even more pleasurably with complementary food and drinks served at your seats. On then by T.G.V. to Colmar arriving early evening.

Friday – A golden start to this holiday as we rail from Colmar into the heart of the Alsace, tour the famous Grand Ballon and complete a circular route by train from Kruth via Mulhouse and the impressive railway museum before returning to Colmar.

Saturday – To the Black Forest today and another marvellous trip enjoying autumn splendour travelling through the beautiful forest by coach and a fabulous rail route to Blumberg.  Here is a sensational steam railway to feast on for the afternoon before completing our circular route and another memorable rail route on the way back to Colmar.

Sunday – More of the golden Alsace beckons today as we tour the northern area by coach and train.  Enjoy the full glory of autumn amid the golden vineyards as we stop and explore delightful towns and villages, and rail from Strasbourg to St Die. Later on we ’ll allow some time to sample the delights of Colmar itself.

OUR HOTEL

Hotel Bristol, Colmar
This three-star rated hotel is a firmly established Inside Track favourite. It is ideally situated in medieval Colmar, opposite the station and within ten minutes of the lovely town centre.  All rooms are of a good quality featuring all the usual amenities. The hotel also boasts a fine restaurant and brasserie. Colmar itself is perfectly placed for our series of trips into the Alsace and to hop over to Germany and down to Switzerland.

Monday – Today we are off to the white, snow-capped mountains of Switzerland by train from Colmar via Basel to Lucern.  A stunning itinerary includes the steepest cogwheel railway in the world up Pilatus, Lake Lucern cruising and The Rigi Mountain Railway.  A light early evening meal is enjoyed, mountaintop, before we return to Colmar by train and coach.

Tuesday – After a relaxed breakfast we leave Colmar retrace our T.G.V. steps, first-class, back to Paris and then by Eurostar to London, arriving late afternoon.
