Holiday brief

Following a hugely successful “trial run” last year, we have decided to offer this superb Austrian holiday for the first time in the brochure. Not only do you have time to explore Vienna, including many highlights arranged by Inside Track, but also, we get out and about with a cruise on the Danube, a trip to Bratislava and a wonderful mountain excursion. Join us for Vienna and Austria at its ’ best.

Wednesday – At leisure until it is time to transfer to the airport for flights home or to commence the train journey back to London, via an overnight stay in historic Aachen.

Special Note: This holiday and price is based on starting and finishing in Vienna. Travel to Vienna is inexpensive by air from the UK, but we can also arrange for travel by rail from London with overnight stops in Aachen. Our courier for this trip will travel by rail – out on Thursday and arriving back in London the following Thursday. First and standard class options are available though last year everyone chose to enhance the experience by travelling first class. Please contact us for advice and prices relating to the above.

OUR HOTEL

We stay at the Hotel Stefanie, a category A (four star equivalent) Best Western establishment, on one of Vienna ’s most important and historical streets. As well as being a friendly, family run hotel it boasts an exceptional restaurant, has a pleasant bar and patio area, and enjoys all the usual high-class amenities one would expect. You ’ll love the fact that the most important sights are but a short walk away.

OUTLINE ITINERARY

Friday – Arrive Vienna (by air or train), check into Hotel Stefanie, then later join us for a first class fixed menu evening meal at the hotel.

Saturday – Today we introduce you to Vienna – Inside Track style – with a vintage tram tour, a “walkabout” and visits to some of the best attractions, particularly Prater Park, the big wheel and the steam railway.

Sunday – We are off to the “Blue Danube” today to enjoy a stunning cruise through world heritage protected villages and towns. A thoroughly enjoyable day is rounded off with an optional (but included) trip to Bratislava. A special evening meal is also included today.

Monday – Bright and early today, we are off to the mountains for a steamy trip on the Schneebergbahn, taking us nearly 6000ft up the Puchberg Mountain. Lunch is included today amid the breathtaking scenery, and the day continues via Semmering and surely one of the great feats of railway engineering heading back towards Vienna.

Tuesday – You’ll need free time today to explore/enjoy the delights of Vienna at leisure, on foot or by tram etc using your day passes. Mid afternoon there will be a trip out to the National Railway Museum, opening especially for us and hopefully, with something in steam. Our last night features an inclusive dinner and concert just up the road from our hotel.
